Welcome to the Transport Group..
AIM
To increase the use of sustainable transport and reduce dependence on petrol and diesel.
EXPLANATION & PROJECTS
Transport is essential for many aspects of life in Kirkbymoorside, including farming, tourism, employment, health facilities, education, and family life. As oil prices continue to rise and climate change problems increase, we want to reduce the negative impacts, so we lobby and spread information on a range of sustainable transport ideas including:
● Creating cycle tracks and bridle-ways
● Improving road-side footpaths
● Improving bus services, connections, information & bus shelters
● Shared transport, including car-sharing, taxis, and mobility projects
● Bike-to-work schemes
● Local bio-fuel production, electric cars & bikes
● Awareness of the huge carbon footprint of conventional transport
As a Transition Town, Kirkbymoorside needs an Energy Descent Plan, and our part of this is a working document called the Energy Descent Plan for Transport with short, medium and long-term goals until the year 2025. This is available to anyone, and we hope it will help more people to join us in the development of sustainable transport. We are always pleased to welcome new faces to our meetings. If you can’t get there, we are always open to ideas or queries if you would like to e-mail, phone or write.
